St Anne’s School Garden Recognised by the RHS

We are incredibly proud to share that our school has been featured by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) for our inspiring wellbeing garden project.

The RHS spotlight highlights how our school community has transformed an outdoor area into a beautiful garden space for prayer, reflection and outdoor learning, supporting pupils’ spiritual, emotional and environmental development.

The project began in 2022, when our staff and pupils worked together to design a space that would encourage mindfulness, creativity and connection with nature. What was once an underused area has now been transformed into a beautiful garden for our children to enjoy. 

The garden includes:

• a peaceful spiritual garden for prayer and reflection
• sensory planting and quiet seating areas
• vegetable beds where we can grow our own food
• rewilding areas to support biodiversity
• outdoor musical instruments to support emotional wellbeing
• bug hotels and wildlife habitats built by our pupils and families

The project has been shaped by pupils, staff and families, with support from our wider community. Parents and local groups have donated plants, materials and time, helping to create a space that reflects the school’s ethos and encourages all our children to let their light shine. 

The garden is now used regularly for RE, PSHE and outdoor learning, giving pupils a calm and welcoming environment where they can reflect, explore faith and values, and develop a deeper understanding of the natural world.

One of the most powerful impacts has been the way the space supports wellbeing. Pupils enjoy planting, harvesting and caring for the garden, developing a sense of responsibility and pride in their environment.

We are delighted that this work has been recognised by the RHS, shining a spotlight on the creativity and care that has gone into creating this special space.
